Rattlesnake Ledge, What A Difference One Week Can Make!

Just a week earlier, we couldn't reach the summit because of the snow / ice pack and how poorly Brenda's shoes were in handling it. The very next day she went to REI, bought new shoes, some of those spiked slip ons and was eager to give it a go. We go back out to Rattlesnake Ledge one week later and all the snow and ice up to the ledge was gone! (here is a link to that hike )

Snapped this of bogie before we headed out, do you think he was really into it?

Snapped a couple pictures of the sign at the beginning of the trailhead, something I do almost every time. I was inspired to pivot my position and caught this one with Brenda giving a "trail face" pose!

Some nice pictures on the way up.

Here we are at the ledge, it was quite windy but almost dead on perfect!

Finally, some pictures after we came down and walked along the lake to the parking lot. Great day!

Saturday At Rattlesnake Ledge

We heard that Sunday was going to be awful (and it was), so we decided to try to get in one hike in this weekend. Brenda wanted to to try her hand at some elevation and we headed out to Rattlesnake Ledge. As it turned out, her boots were simply awful on hard snow/ice mixtures. So we stopped shot of the summit. In January, you take what you are given and we enjoyed getting out of the house. As always, started off with a few photo shots at the lake.

The first large stick that Brenda found to help her through the ice pack. I felt bad, my boots had no problem at all.

Not quite the same view as at the summit but this was nice.

Here you can see at bit of a dog jam, more dogs than I expected on the trail. That always makes it nice and everyone was very well behaved.

Heading back, at some points the ice storm damage was both amazing and heartbreaking.

We stopped by Squak Mountain State Park on the way back and did a quick little forest hike. Just like Rattlesnake Ledge, lots of damage from last weeks ice storm.

Christmas Eve Hike At Coal Creek

Hadn't been on a hike for awhile and you don't get that much to choose from this time of year in the Pacific Northwest. Brenda and I had plans to head out in the afternoon to visit her friends, so a morning 6 mile Coal Creek hike seemed to fit the bill.

Lots of mineral runoff and the waterfall looked awesome but uninviting!

Trying my hand at some bridge shots!

By the way, here are links to previous trips to Coal Creek ...

Another Year / Another Whiskey Town Hike

The day after Thanksgiving, my cousin Mike and I took the dogs on a great hike at the Whiskeytown National Recreational area. I really loved how some of these pictures came out.

A picture of Mike and I, realize just now that we have been exploring different woods together for over 40 years.

A little post hike washing up for Beau!

Sutton Creek Recreational Area

Our second stop was just down the road a piece at the Sutton Creek Recreational Area.
