2. One of the 4 mode states of FileMaker. Used primarily used for viewing information on a layout. It is also the mode you are in when you are editing information, deleting information or sorting records.
3. You don’t usually see this term in FileMaker discussions but it is commonly used in databases and trefers to large pieces of data including movie files, pictures, sounds, etc...
6. Refers to the last versions of a product before it is released and most features that are going to be in the final version should be in the product. This version is primarily designed to uncover design problems or bugs.
7. Found in the lower left corner of the tool bar when you are in Layout mode. (two words)
10. An object on a FileMaker layout that has been assigned to perform an action when it is clicked upon. It can be created within FileMaker, a graphic element, a field or even an independent text string.
11. A two way synchronization method were both files modify each other during a synchronization process. This is different than unidirectional synchronization which one file updates another file only.
12. The field you sort on to get sub summary totals in a likewise define layout/report. If you have to sort by date to get the a total for that sub summary part, then the date field is referred to as your break field.

1. In Layout mode will bring a selected object up a level. Each layout object is on their own independent level. The object on the higher level will be in front of the objects on the lower levels. This makes more sense when you have two or more layout objects that overlap each other on the layout. (two words)
4. One of the layout choices when you request to create a new layout. It will have no fields and include the Header, Body and Footer layout parts.
5. Used when evaluating if a statement is in one of two states. These two states are generally TRUE or FALSE... or ... 1 and 0.
6. Refers to a particular font type that can relay multiple pieces of information when scanned but normally returns the unique id of an item or document.
7. Generally describes an IF statement that can split the navigation of a calculation or a script. In the case of a script, if one specific choice is made you go to one place, if a different choice is made you can go to somewhere else within the script. In the case of calculations, the result can split based upon entered data or even environmental conditions like the day of the week or the computer users name.
8. The layout element that is used for typical data entry and for viewing records in list mode.
9. This is when a set of records are processed at a particular time.
11. The process of creating copies of files and storing them in a remote location in case of emergency. FileMaker files opened locally should be closed before you do this process. FileMaker Server can perform this action on FileMaker files while they are being hosted and can do it on a defined schedule.
